A layman's guide to the Flu Shot

Nobody likes to get a shot and most people will think of any reason not to.  When I was in the military we got a lot of shots, and I hated them all. One of the greatest lies told when I was kid was that my vaccinations were for life.  I as a 5 year old thought that the pain I was suffering was the last of the awful booster shot pain I would ever have.  However every time I go in for a physical they have a new vaccination for me to receive.

Every year medical professionals swear you cannot get the flu from the flu shot and I believe them.  I have never gotten the flu from the shot so in my small world I know this to be true. However many people every year swear they do, so I asked our medical director why this was and he had a surprisingly simple answer.

The flu vaccine takes three weeks to take effect but you can catch the flu from someone you meet in the doctors office while waiting for the flu shot in much shorter time frame. So the answer is yes you can catch the flu from getting the flu shot...if you come in contact with someone who has the flu.

Dr. Wyatt's suggestion, get the flu shot as early as possible before the flu season starts affecting a lot of people.
